Job Description for Director of Music Ministries Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church  MISSIONOur mission is to reach out with the love of Jesus to grow disciples and serve our community. WORSHIP & MUSIC VISIONWe believe we are called to invite all to glorify God through Word, Sacrament, and music.  We therefore seek to enrich worship through a creative and inspiring variety of musical programs that are welcoming and accessible to all. JOB SUMMARY The Director of Music Ministries should provide spiritual enrichment through music and extend the ministry of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church into the congregation and community through the activities of the music program. The Director of Music Ministry is the principal musician. They are responsible for coordinating and overseeing the orders of service and music for worship with the Senior Pastor and directly supervising the organist. This position reports directly to the Senior Pastor QUALIFICATIONSThe Director of Music Ministries will have:

• Passion for the church and God’s work in and through it
• Demonstrated appreciation for the centrality of worship in the life of a congregation in the Lutheran tradition
• Bachelor’s Degree in Music or Music Education
• Prior experience in directing and conducting vocal and instrumental ensembles in a church environment
• Familiarity with the Lutheran church hymnody and liturgy
• Appropriate interpersonal skills including the ability to work cooperatively with pastoral leadership, staff, and congregation

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAdult Mixed ChorusThe adult mixed chorus provides anthems at regular Sunday services and special services. The Director of Music Ministries is responsible for:·         Selecting music·         Organizing and executing rehearsals·         Retaining accompanists·         Conducting on Sunday and special servicesCantorsCantors lead the congregation in the psalmody at all Sunday and Special services. The Director of Music Ministries is responsible for: ·         Overseeing/collaborating with the cantor coordinator in recruitment of volunteer cantors·         Serving as Cantor as neededVocal Soloists or EnsemblesVocal soloists or small vocal ensembles supplement worship music at various services and other special occasions. The Director of Music Ministries is responsible for:·         Recruitment of vocalists·         Selection/approval of music·         Rehearsals as neededYouth ChoirThe youth choir(s) is composed of children from age 3 to age 18 and performs periodically inclusive of the Children’s Christmas program. The Director of Music Ministries is responsible for:·         Selection of music·         Recruiting children in coordination with the Director of Youth and Family Ministries·         Rehearsing·         ConductingHandbellsThe Handbell Choir provides supplemental music at various services and special occasions.
