Position Available: Pianist/Accompanist
Part-time - 10-15 hours per week
First Presbyterian is a church of 500+ members and is located in the downtown historical district of Lancaster Ohio. Our church's musical ministry has long been valued and supported by the congregation and participates in our local arts community.
The church has two Sunday services, 8:15am and 10:45am. Choir rehearsals are Wednesday evening at 6:30pm (8:15 Choir, 6-10 members) and 7:30-9:00pm (Chancel Choir, 20-30 members).
High level of proficiency in piano/keyboard instruments. Primary performance instrument is a six-foot Yamaha Baby Grand piano (Organ competency not required)
Sight reading and ability to follow direction
Comfortable with eclectic mix of musical styles and genres (i.e. Classical, Traditional Christian Hymns, Gospel/Jazz, and Contemporary Worship)
Ability to accompany singing groups or soloists, and participate with musical ensembles/orchestra
Accompany both choirs during worship service and rehearsals.
Accompany congregational singing during worship services.
With input from the Pastor and Director of Worship & Music (and coordinating with staff organist when applicable), research and choose prelude, postlude, offertory, and communion music for worship services that are appropriate to the message and tone of the service.
Provide assistance in planning, preparing, rehearsing and playing appropriate music for scheduled worship services and other required occasions to support the music ministry of the church.
Provide music/accompaniment for additional services such as Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Christmas Eve or other liturgical days. Occasional additional duties/services may arise (funerals/weddings), which will be negotiated in advance.
Participate as team member of Worship and Music committee (one meeting per month)
Approach the position from the perspective of a worship leader, rather than a performer, and keep in mind the ministerial nature of the position.
Pre-service rehearsal with congregation and guest musicians (when applicable) each week,
Work in conjunction with the Director of Worship & Music in all of the above, meeting regularly (approximately weekly) to discuss calendar and worship preparations.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary commensurate with experience and education, 3-5 years experience preferred
Vacation: Four (4) Sundays per year. Sick leave: Two (2) Sundays per year
