Minister of Music - Centenary United Methodist Church, Columbus

We have been making disciples of Christ for more than a century. Located on the north side of Columbus, the church has been re-defining its ministries to meet changing congregational needs and to more effectively engage community residents. This congregation seeks to use Christian musical genres of the historic and modern black church to energize members and invite new people to experience Christ's love.

The Minister of Music is a part-time position that works collaboratively with the Pastor and Worship Committee to arrange worship, direct the Sanctuary Choir, the Children's and Men’s Choruses, and teach appropriate music to all members of all the choirs and congregation.

Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Music or Music Education from an accredited college or university;
Minimum Qualifications
• Understanding of basic musical theory;
• A calling to lead worship and to teach others to lead worship, on the Praise Team;
• Ability to read music;
• Musical aptitude and ability to teach music (to beginners and experienced choir members);
• Familiarity with the African-American expression of the United Methodist church;
• Proven leadership and team-building skills;
• Be a Christian and exercise behavior and demeanor compatible with Christian teachings;
• Be familiar with and adhere to the Safe Sanctuary Policy and Practices of the congregation as defined by the United Methodist Church. Successful completion of the SSP training must be completed within the first year of employment.

The Staff, Pastor, Parish Committee will perform all performance evaluations for this position and address all employment concerns with input from the Pastor. The Pastor will oversee the day-to-day job duties of this position and coordinate concerns with the SPPRC and Worship Committee, as appropriate.

The person filling this position will be an independent contractor.
