Sara Seidel is now officially our new membership coordinator! We transferred the computer data over last night. I am excited for our chapter to have this new, energetic face in charge of our directory and membership data. Bryan and I are both confident that Sara will be a wonderful steward for our chapter and we are willing to assist her should the need arise.

Greetings,

Do you know of a student or colleague who might be interested in our MSM degree at the University of Notre Dame?

At the moment I am recruiting students for our Master of Sacred Music program at the University of Notre Dame. This program is in its third year, and it is a wonderful program that has already attracted fine students. We are extremely excited about what is going on here. The degree combines music (two organ recitals, organ literature, music history) and liturgy courses. There are details of the program on the website: http://www.nd.edu/~msm/

The assistantships pay full tuition for two years plus a stipend of $12,000 per year for two years. If you know of any prospective undergraduate students or others who are not currently enrolled in a graduate program, I would appreciate hearing from you. If you have any names to suggest, I am happy to contact them. It is not too late to apply for 2008-2009.

Typically a student on an assistantship works in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on campus. The Sunday morning mass has been broadcast across the country every Sunday on the Hallmark Channel for the last five years; the average viewership was around 1.5 million per week. This broadcast will change soon to another network. There is so much musical work to be done there that it is a great hands-on learning experience.

Our new Fritts organ and organ hall are stunning. We have an eclectic-style tracker organ in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart that is also used for teaching, practice, and performance. You can see the Fritts at http://www.frittsorgan.com/opus024.htm

Many thanks for your help, and all the best in the new year,

Craig Cramer, DMA

Dear AGO chapter contacts,

I am the director of a small choir called Musica Sacra and we are taking our 5th annual choir tour to the UK next summer, July 16-30, to sing in England, Scotland and Wales. The high points will be singing Choral Eucharists in St. Paul's Cathedral, London and Chester Cathedral. Because of the size of the buildings involved we will be looking for a few extra singers to boost the ranks, and so if you would be willing to post a notice in your chapter newsletter to see if anyone might have a singer or two interested, that would be much appreciated!
Best wishes,
~James.

In Appreciation…

Dear Friends:

Wow!! What a marvelous convention that we were privileged to experience. Thanks go to so many who worked endless hours to make this happen: the sponsors, donors, the Steering Committee under Al Adcock, volunteers, recitalists, workshop presenters, church choirs, directors, organists and worship leaders. All of these persons deserve out gratitude - every detail was thoughtfully carried out. The convention was one of the finest that I have attended.

As for me - your support and love was overwhelming, allowing me to have very special memories. I AM SO THANKFUL!

From the Outgoing Dean…

I want to thank all of you for giving me the opportunity to serve you over the last six years or so as Executive Committee member, Sub-Dean, and Dean. What an amazing time it has been! I was a "charter member" of the initial convention brainstorming committee when it first met in October 2003 in James Yeager's kitchen, and have been part of the multitudinous discussions and decisions that culminated in our splendid Region V Convention two weeks ago. It's hard to believe that all of that is already history.

A note of special thanks must go to the present Executive Committee and to Al Adcock and the Steering Committee - these persons made my role as Dean much easier, and kept both our monthly programs and our convention planning at the same high level.

It has been both an honor and a pleasure to head the Columbus Chapter these past two years, and I extend my best wishes to our new Dean, Laura Silva, and her officers and Executive Committee as they prepare for a new program year.

Cordially,

Robert Wisniewski, AAGO

Dean, Columbus Chapter, 2005-2007
