Job Description:
St. Pius X Church is seeking a dedicated and talented Director of Music Ministry to lead and develop a vibrant music program that enhances worship and nurtures the spiritual life of our congregation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong musical leadership, a passion for ministry, and the
ability to engage the congregation in meaningful worship through music.
Key Responsibilities:
• Leadership & Planning of church music
• Plan, coordinate, and lead music for all worship services, including Sunday services, special services (e.g., Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter), and other church events.
• Collaborate with the pastor and worship teams to align music with the liturgical calendar, sermon
themes, and church mission.
Musical Direction:
• Direct and rehearse the choir, children’s choir, praise band, instrumentalists, and/or other
musical groups within the church.
• Recruit, train, and mentor volunteers and musicians of all ages and skill levels.
• Incorporate a variety of musical styles, including traditional hymns, contemporary worship songs,
and multicultural music, as appropriate.
Administrative Duties:
• Manage the music ministry budget, including purchasing music, instruments, and equipment.
• Maintain the church’s music library, instruments, and sound equipment.
• Communicate schedules, expectations, and updates to music team members and the congregation.
Community Engagement:
• Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for all participants in the music ministry.
• Encourage the congregation’s participation in worship through music.
• Explore opportunities for outreach, such as concerts, community events, or collaborations with local musicians.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in music (preferred), Music Ministry, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Proficiency in vocal and instrumental music, with the ability to lead rehearsals and conduct musical ensembles. Able to accompany on the organ/piano or find an accompanist.
• Familiarity with Christian worship traditions and an understanding of liturgical practices.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Technological proficiency, including sound systems, recording equipment, and worship planning
software.
Preferred Skills:
• Experience with diverse musical styles and integrating them into worship.
• Ability to arrange or compose music as needed.
• Passion for discipleship and mentoring others in their musical and spiritual growth.
