Job Description The Principal Accompanist serves as support to the Director of Sacred Music adhering to the Liturgical Guidelines of the Catholic Church, the Diocese of Columbus and of the Parish.

This position requires variable and flexible hours, primarily evenings and weekends. It will include working holidays.

All the duties and standards within this job description will be performed according to the established policies, procedures and guidelines outlined in the parish and diocesan policy and procedures manuals.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

-Assists the Director of Sacred Music by providing accompaniment (primarily organ but also piano) during weekend Masses, holy days, and special Masses.

-Serves as the principal organist for the Parish Choir. Accompanies weekly Parish Choir rehearsals (usually September-May) and choir Masses.

-Accompany rehearsals for the Schola and/or Children’s Choir, possibly starting Fall of 2024.

-Fills in for the Director of Sacred Music to direct choirs during Mass or rehearsal when the Director is absent.

-Accompanies other music events, including, but not limited to; Advent Lessons and Carols, a Lenten/Easter/Spring choir concert, All Souls Requiem, and compline/solemn vespers.

-Accompanies weddings and funerals as requested by the Director of Sacred Music.

-Assists in coordinating supplementary music ensembles for Easter and Christmas.

-Assists in liturgy planning and consultation at the discretion of the Director.

-This position works collaboratively with the Director of Sacred Music to implement a program of liturgical music in accord with Church doctrine on sacred music. Specifically, the music program will continue to be guided toward substantial choral and organ repertoire, various types of English chant and Gregorian chant, and hymnody.
